Northern Settlement Services Limited (NSS) is an entirely independent not-for-profit entity delivering a broad range of settlement services.
Our beneficiaries include basically all life cycle CALD individuals and their communities: newly arrived migrants and refugees/humanitarian entrants, longer settled people of CALD background, older migrants (especially those over 65), newly developing families with cross cultural experiences, single parent families, youth, vulnerable families with young children, those in socially and geographically isolated situations.
Our area of operation includes Newcastle, the Hunter Region, Central Coast and Northern Tablelands of NSW. Across this area a diverse group of migrants and refugees have settled, some widely dispersed in regional towns and properties and others concentrated in the suburbs of Newcastle and in parts of the Central Coast of NSW.
Target group
NSS's Target group is culturally diverse and includes new arrival refugees, family stream migrants, the dependants of skilled migrants, temporary migrants, bridging visa holders, long settled migrants, aged migrants, young people and vulnerable families.
Programs
The settlement services that NSS provides includes, case work, migration agent support, volunteering, capacity development with the target group and with other services, and coordination.
This is covered in group work, after hours homework support, managing interagencies and networks, cultural awareness competency training and youth mentoring.
