In response to the government's call to act quickly to the Delta outbreak, which began in mid-June, Karen Lin, the Chinese worker at Accessible Diversity Services Initiative (ADSI), contacted a GP and a staff member from the Western Sydney Local Health District.
She was able to organise a much-needed community information session on COVID-19 and vaccines for the Chinese community at the end of July.
The information session was successful in dispelling myths, confusion and fear about the vaccines – particularly the AstraZeneca vaccine.
In fact, several people in attendance were persuaded to take the vaccine after being able to hear accurate, scientific information directly from health professionals, in a way that they could understand.
