The Youth Workers Network, consisting of youth workers across the NSP consortium, on September 15 participated in a workshop facilitated by consultant Naomi Nash, who is working with the NSP on the Exploring Settlement project.
Following on from a Reflection Forum in May and after more than 50 listening exercises and looking at preliminary findings, project organisers found that the needs and voices of migrant and refugee youth required a deeper exploration, as their challenges were unique and different from older cohorts.
To address that gap, organisers held a workshop with youth workers to brainstorm and adapt the questions from the Exploring Settlement toolkit for a younger cohort.
The workshop, held via Zoom, was illuminating. It drew on the work of the partnership over the past year and organisers hope that by holding youth-specific listening exercises, they will be able to learn from and engage multicultural youth in a more meaningful and significant way and improve youth services in the settlement sector and beyond.
